What State Agencies Prosecute?

The Police arrest.

The Prosecutor prosecutes.

The Judicial Branch determines if the evidence is sufficient to convict. The judge sentences.

A police investigation is not a prosecution.

The State Attorney (also called District Attorney), a statewide prosecutor, or the Department of Justice (U.S.) prosecutes.
